Why Are More People Suffering From Food Allergies?
Data suggests that global food allergy rates grew from 3% in 1960 to 7% in 2018. Vitamin D Deficiencies
Vitamin D is important for the development of the immune system. Unfortunately, as lifestyles have changed over the years, children today are spending more time indoors. The lack of sunlight often leads to Vitamin D deficiencies, potentially causing a greater chance of food allergies. While there is no concrete evidence of the link, Vitamin D is still crucial for a child’s overall health. Without the recommended daily exposure to sunlight, an individual could also experience bone and respiratory illnesses.
The average diet has also changed considerably over recent times. While some families embrace healthy eating, many people opt for processed foods and diets that do not offer a full spectrum of nutrients. A poor diet is bad for overall health, but as it also can lead to tissue inflammation, such a diet could specifically play a part in allergies. This inflammation increases the risk of experiencing problems with your immune system.
The hygiene hypothesis is a disputed concept that may offer some answers after further study. This hypothesis suggests that a modern approach to hygiene kills vast numbers of bacteria that young children would have been exposed to in previous generations. Without this exposure, the immune system may be underdeveloped – and more likely to overreact to the presence of harmless foods like peanuts and eggs.
